Explore the surreal world of Salvador Dalí, the 20th century's greatest exhibitionist and eccentric. A pioneer in applying Freudian psychoanalysis to art, his surrealist works, such as the soft watches and lobster telephone, are known for their precise rendering of bizarre elements and incongruous arrangements. Experience the "hand-painted dream photographs" and imperialist fury of precision in his paintings.

Salvador Dalí in 1936

About the Artist

Salvador Dalí

Salvador Dalí (1904 — 1989) was a Spanish Surrealist painter and printmaker, influential for his explorations of subconscious imagery. Major themes in his work include dreams, the subconscious, sexuality, religion, science and his closest personal relationships. To the dismay of those who held his work in high regard, and to the irritation of his critics, his eccentric and ostentatious public behavior often drew more attention than his artwork.
