About the Artist
Titian
Tiziano Vecellio (c. 1488/90 – 1576), Latinized as Titianus, hence known in English as Titian, was an Italian Renaissance painter, the most important artist of Renaissance Venetian painting. He was born in Pieve di Cadore, near Belluno. During his lifetime he was often called da Cadore, 'from Cadore', taken from his native region.
About the Author
Ian G. Kennedy
Ian G. Kennedy studied art history at Cambridge and the Courtauld Institute, London University. He worked for nearly three decades at Christie’s, New York, and as Curator of European Paintings at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri, until 2013. He now lives and works as an independent scholar in Chapel Hill.
